Season of Advent: 'I want to be among the 21st Century 'Wise Men'.

Good Sunday Morning to you!

It's the Second Sunday in Advent.

It's December 5th!
The tradition for the second Sunday of Advent includes lighting the second purple candle that is a 'symbol of faith'. This particular 2nd Sunday of Advent causes us to read, pray, and reflect on the hope of God’s redemption plan and gives us the promise of Christ’s coming again in a 'glory-filled' return.

Become 21st Century 'Wise Men'

Here during the 2nd week of Advent, we can become like '21st Century "Wise Men"' like those of the East that visited Jesus the very 1st Christmas.

And how can we become like the '1st Wise Men'?

By remembering the promise of Jesus Christ coming the '2nd time'.

Jesus spoke about this in one of the parables as recorded in Matthew 25.  The story tells about 5 wise virgins and 5 foolish virgins.  And since it is the 2nd week of the Advent Season, let's 'zero in' about the 2nd Coming of Christ.  Please read below . . .

“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps (lamps shine out LIGHT, it is Advent now*) and went out to meet the groom.  Five of them were foolish and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they didn’t take oil (symbolic of the Holy Spirit*) with them; but the wise ones took oil (symbolic of the Holy Spirit*)in their flasks with their lamps.  When the groom (Jesus*) was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. “In the middle of the night there was a shout: ‘Here’s the groom (Jesus*)! Come out to meet him.’ “Then all the virgins got up and trimmed (turned up & decorated*) their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ “The wise ones answered, ‘No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell oil, and buy some for yourselves.’ “When they had gone to buy some, the groom arrived, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut. Later the rest of the virgins also came and said, ‘Master, master, open up for us!’ “He replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you!’ “Therefore be alert, because you don’t know either the day or the hour. 'Matthew 25:1-13  ' * ' = faithman's notes.

Wow, what a good and sobering warning from the Lord in this parable!! Just because we can get religious and go to church once in a while, or when we feel like it, we can 'miss the 2nd coming' if we fail to keep our LAMPS filled with the LIGHT of the LORD daily that comes from being filled and following the Holy Spirit's oil!

I want to be among the '21st Century Wisemen' . . . Don't You?!

This Advent Season, let us ask the Holy Spirit to Fill us and use us and move us to where we can SHINE OUT FOR THE LORD!! Amen!

'Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk — not as unwise people but as wise — making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit: '  Ephesians 5:15-18

If we follow through with the above scripture instructions, we can be sure that we will be like '21st Century Wise Men'!

Ps. . . How's the 'Advent Challenge' Going???
